Wicked The Musical – 5th Year Show

In 2009, James Cameron made blue sexy in the film Avatar, but little did he know that green had already established as the main colour for any female lead, years before Jake Sully ever set foot on Pandora.

The Green lead in question was Elphaba in the Musical Wicked, and the other night I was invited to see the fifth year performance at the Apollo Victoria Theatre in London.

I had already seen the show once, and was delighted to be invited back for the special performance.

For those that haven’t seen the show, the story is a prequel to the famous Wizard of Oz story, but seen from the Vantage point of Elphaba (the wicked witch of the West).

In the show, you get to see Elphaba’s childhood as well as getting to find out why Dorothy and the rest of Oz, brandished her a ‘wicked witch’.

I don’t want to give too much away but I will not be making my future children watch Wizard of Oz. They are going to see wicked first so they can know the real truth (I say that like it’s a conspiracy)

The show was fantastic and with a great cast, especially Garlinda ….sorry Glinda, there are some great songs and a witty storyline to keep you smiling throughout.

As I mentioned it was the second time I was seeing it, and it just got better and better. I could easily sit through it again.

Here’s a great song from the show called ‘Defying Gravity’:

What made the show extra special was that as the end of the performance, they introduced all the past actors and actresses that have played in the show since its opening 5 years ago.

I thoroughly recommend going to see the show if you haven’t seen it. One of the best musicals I’ve seen ever.
