Drinks International announced the eagerly awaited The World’s 50 Best Bars 2014 at a ceremony at Christ Church Spitalfields. Representatives from the world’s leading bars flew into the capital to attend the Awards, along with internationally renowned industry figures and celebrity supporters. The World’s 50 Best Bars is the most influential and respected global survey of its kind. The awards are the result of an international industry survey produced by Drinks International, the leading magazine for the global drinks industry.
London prevailed to retain the Number One spot with Artesian taking the title of The World’s Best Bar for the third consecutive year! Located within The Langham Hotel, Artesian recently launched its new menu for 2014; The ‘Unfolding and Exploring’ menu includes creations such as the ‘Vodkatini Waiting To Become A Manhattan’ which energises Ketel One Vodka with gemstones using Supersonic technology – we’ve been working our way through the menu for the last couple of weeks and absolutely love what they have done with it.
London fought off stiff opposition from New York and Sydney to claim the title but overall, Europe appears to be the international epicentre for good drinking as it led the regions ranking with 21 of its bars included within the 50 Best list. In particular London boasted more bars in the top 50 than any other city with eight bars listed overall.
UK bars included on the list represent the varied and dynamic nature of London’s cocktail culture. Hidden speakeasy style bars such as Nightjar (3), Happiness Forgets (12), and Callooh Callay (49) are placed alongside traditional hotel bars of The American Bar at The Savoy (8), and the Connaught Bar (11). In addition, the unrivalled innovation at 69 Colebrooke Row (23), White Lyan (20) and the Artesian (1) have also gained global appreciation to confirm London as the cocktail capital of the world.
