“You talkin to me?” said a young Robert De Niro to himself in the mirror in Taxi Driver. Fast forward to today and it seems he is still using that line in a similar way – this time aimed at rapper Jay-Z.
It was reported that De Niro confronted Jigga over a series of unreturned phone calls at Leonardo DiCaprio’s Birthday party.
De Niro claims that Jay-Z failed to return a total of six phone calls after he promised to record a track for his Tribeca Film Festival.
An insider said that ‘Bob wasn’t in any mood to make polite conversation. He told Jay that if somebody calls you six times, you call them back. It doesn’t matter who you are, that is just rude’.
To be fair Mr Carter he has a point. When Robert De Niro calls, you need to answer.. have you never seen Goodfellas or Casino?
The source added that he continued the tirade in front of the likes of Martin Scorsese and Cameron Diaz, who were also celebrating DiCaprio’s birthday.
“De Niro kept telling him that he thinks he’s the man, but that he was disrespectful,” they said. “Beyoncé came over, but that didn’t calm Bob down.
“It was the talk of the party. Everyone was saying there’s only one star in New York bigger and badder than Jay-Z, and that’s Robert De Niro. He can be quite scary when he’s angry.”
Of course in reality, it probably went like this:
Bob: Ehh Hoooo Jay-Z!
Jay: geyeahhhhhhhh
Bob: I called you like 6 times, what the funk!
Jay: Sorry Bob
Bob: ehhh whayyagonna do, let’s grab a drink, all is forgotten…
And that was that. Unless De Niro releases a diss track against Jay-Z, We aint sayin Nutin!
