As Christmas gets into full swing and we look back at the fantastic year we’ve had sampling some of the finest Bourbon and American Whiskey on this planet, we thought it would be a good idea to put together a handy gift guide to help you in your journey of Christmas shopping.
We’ve put together something for everyone so take a look and have a great Christmas.
1. Old Forester
Old Forester was a bourbon we discovered last year and offers the drinker a bourbon with history. It was the only bourbon to be bottled before, during and after Prohibition. The whisky is still produced by the same founding family, this Kentucky straight bourbon whisky was first created by George Garvin Brown in 1870 in Louisville.
Old Forester Bourbon retails for around £30 and can be found at most specialist retailer and Tesco’s. (At the time of writing this Tesco’s are selling it for £20 but act fast).
2. Woodford Reserve
Woodford Reserve Distiller’s Select is the only bourbon to be triple distilled in cooper pot stills, giving it a balance of depth and flavour that make it great for the Old Fashioned cocktail. Heavy on the nose with faint vanilla and tobacco spice, the complexity of Woodford Reserve gives it a silky smooth, with a well rounded and almost creamy finish.
Woodford Reserve is a perfect all-rounder bourbon, making an ideal bourbon for an Old Fashioned. A smooth bourbon, making it great for Old Fashioned, Whiskey Sours, or even to sip on the rocks.
Woodford Reserve Distillers Select is available for around £30 at most retailers and can usually be found on offer in most supermarkets.
3. Bulleit Bourbon 10
This year award winning Frontier Whiskey Bulleit extended its range of premium American Whiskeys with the launch of Bulleit Bourbon 10-Year-Old.
Bulleit-10-Year-Old is the latest whiskey to join the brand’s range and has been aged for a minimum of ten years in charred American white oak casks to add richness and depth, offering a smooth sipping experience. The new expression is dark in colour with a warm, orange hue and delivers definitive aromas of rich toasted oak with hints of vanilla and dried fruits, each sip provides a mellow finish of dry spice with caramel notes.
We were lucky enough to sample Bulleit 10 at London Cocktail week and found it works really well in and Old Fashioned Masterclass and on the rocks.
Bulleit Bourbon is available for around £42 from most specialist retailers including Masters of Malt.
4. Woodford Reserve Double Oaked
For those that want to get something extra special this Christmas, why not pick up a bottle of Woodford Reserve Double Oaked.
Woodford Reserve Double Oaked is available from most specialist retailers for around £50.
5. Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Rye
A new edition to the Jack Daniel’s family, the Single Barrel Rye is made from 70% rye, 18% corn and 12% malted barley grain to deliver a “clean, sweet tone” and a “slightly shorter” finish than the original Single Barrel variant.
The expression offers a robust, full-bodied flavour, complemented by the smooth, unmissable character of Jack Daniel’s.
Expect a bold and complex flavour profile, with notes of dried fruit mix, light toasted oak, caramel and vanilla, making a perfect sipping Whiskey to toast Christmas day with.
Similar to the Single Barrel, each bottle is hand-labelled and marked with a unique rick number and bottling date, meaning there is something special in each bottle waiting to be sipped.
Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Rye is available for around £50 from specialist retailers and from the Jack Daniel’s online store.
