Its the one night in the year the cigar smokers everywhere rejoice… Boisdale of Canary Wharf are hosting a decadent evening in celebration of the world’s greatest luxury item… the hand-rolled cigar.
Bringing together cigar aficionados and celebrity cigar smokers from around the world, The Spectator Cigar Awards Dinner 2014, sponsored by Mehmet Kurt of Kingwood Stud, founded by Boisdale will be held in the lavish surroundings of Boisdale of Canary Wharf on 16th November 2014. Accompanied by some of the most highly regarded vintage wines and spirits, the event will celebrate the culture and heritage of the exquisite tobacco product over a jubilant banquet.
So what’s in store for those lucky enough to be there…
The evening will recognise various aspects of the cigar world, with award categories including Cigar Producer, Distributor and Writer, culminating in The Spectator Cigar Smoker of the Year. This will be presented to a high profile individual with a complete passion for the pure enjoyment of cigar smoking, and a persona that exudes the stature, refinement and elegance of the great hand-rolled cigar. The celebrity winner will receive a beautiful JEANRICHARD Terrascope wristwatch with pink gold bezel and alligator strap (retail value £4,200), a bottle of Chateau Mouton Rothschild 1999 and a Frederic Saint Romain designed limited edition ST Dupont lighter (retail value £5,500).
The nominees for this year’s Spectator Cigar Smoker of the Year include Hollywood legends, political commentators and renowned sporting figures including Arnold Schwarzenegger, Kelsey Grammer, Ricky Gervais, David Dimbleby and Sir Ian Botham. British Conservative member of the House of Lords and once a code-breaker at Bletchley Park, Baroness Trumpington is the sole nominee for the The Spectator Cigar Lifetime Achievement Award 2014.
Guests will gather on the Boisdale’s covered terrace for Barons de Rothschild Champagne, Chivas Regal whisky cocktails and a canapé reception followed by a sumptuous dinner of expertly sourced Hebridean shellfish and Aberdeenshire beef fillet that Boisdale is famed for. The dinner will culminate with the Awards Ceremony followed by another long-awaited cigar and a rare opportunity to taste Hennessy X.O Cognac and The Balvenie 15 Year Old Single Barrel Malt Whisky.

Boisdale owner, awards founder and cigar connoisseur Ranald Macdonald comments, “I would like to think that The Spectator Cigar Awards Dinner is second only in the cigar world to the Habanos Cigar Festival Dinner held every year in Havana. Unlike the Habanos Dinner, we wanted to open up the world of cigars and celebrate producers and retailers from both Cuba and the rest of the world to bring the entire cigar community together for one spectacular event.”
We’re long time fans of Boisdale and with a vast collection of fine, rare and introductory cigars, and a list of over 2,000 bottles of whisky, their expertise in these fields is unquestionable. The Spectator Cigar Smoker Awards Dinner will gather the greats of the cigar and celebrity world for an enticing evening that is set to confirm Boisdale as the UK’s home of cigar smoking…
