Rumfest 2014 Seminar Timetable Released

Rumfest is under 2 weeks away and as we round up the troops and prepare for a long day of premium rum sampling, we were given an extra reason to be excited with the release of the seminar timetable that will be taking place over the Rumfest weekend.

We are especially excited to check out Havana Club, Diplomatico, Mount Gay Rum… oh sod it, ALL of them

Here’s the full seminar list, for your reading pleasure:

Saturday 11th October

Seminar Room 1

12:30 – 13:15Miguel Smith, International Brand Ambassador for Mount Gay Rum, will guide you through the rich history and heritage of the brand, with a full tasting of the entire range, including the newly released Black Barrel.

13.45 – 14.30 – Join Master Distiller John Georges as he takes you through the distilling, aging and some of the techniques that have been adopted to achieve the flavours in Angostura rums as well as their innovative flavour wheel.

15:00 – 15:45Martin Cate of Smuggler’s Cove and special guests, hosts a seminar discussing the history of rum and the Royal Navy. You’ll have the opportunity to sample Pusser’s and the exclusive Black Tot rum.

16.15 – 17.00Georgi Radev from London Mayfair’s famous Mahiki Club will be taking people on a Tiki journey of discovery. He will talk about the history of the Tiki cocktail from the old favourites to the new cocktails that Mahiki have made so popular!

Seminar Room 2

12.45 – 13:30 – Famous chocolatiers Rococo Chocolates and Global Rum Ambassador Ian Burrell host a glorious Rum & Chocolate pairing – what a heavenly combination!

14:00 – 14.45Tito Cordero, Diplomático’s Master Blender, is one of the most celebrated characters of the Rum World winning “Master Blender of the Year” at The 2013 Golden Rum Barrel Awards.  A tutored tasting of the Diplomático range is not to be missed.

15:15 – 16:00Havana Club invites you to a unique seminar with Master Blender Don Asbel Morales, who will bring to life the craft of making an extraordinary premium rum: Selección de Maestros. Linking the art of rum-making with the rich Cuban culture.

16.30 – 17.15Ron Botran lead a seminar that will be focused on their Guatemala DOP (Denominación de Origen Protegida). Exploring the different families of rums especially about Guatemalan rums and Botran, as well as a fine selection of rums from other countries.

Sunday 12th October

Seminar Room 1

13.45 – 14.30 – Join the UK BACARDI Brand Ambassador, Shervene Shahbazkhani for an introduction to the white rum category, a style that is often over shadowed by age. Includes a comparative rum tasting.

15:00 – 15:45Peter Holland of TheFloatingRumShack.com chairs an introduction to three very popular Cachaças. Leblon, Abelha & Germana. The Leblon tasting will be led by Master Distiller, Carlos Oliveira.

16.15 – 17.00Ron Botran lead a seminar that will be focused on our Guatemala DOP (Denominación de Origen Protegida). We are going to talk about the different families of rums especially about Guatemalan rums and Ron Botran. They will have rum from the French Antilles, Venezuela and Guatemala.

Seminar Room 2

12.45 – 13:30 – Marshmallows and Rum, back due to popular demand Global Rum Ambassador Ian Burrell hosts this unforgettable masterclass.  A rum pairing with specially created marshmallows from confectioners extraordinaire, The Marshmallowists.

14:00 – 14.45Agricole Rhum: the world of rum is beautifully diverse, influenced by tradition and culture. Agricole is made with similar techniques to Cognac and Armagnac. Learn more with Audrey Bruisson and Emilie Campesato from Rhum Clément.

15:15 – 16:00Richard Seale, Master Distiller of Foursquare in Barbados, one of the most respected and innovative distillers in the Caribbean, will be testing you on your rum knowledge.

16.30 – 17.15Alexandre Gabriel, owner and master distiller at Plantation Rum will be presenting his latest creations including the infamous Plantation Pineapple, 98 Jamaican Tokai and some of the UK’s exclusive single cask rums.
