Film Distributors’ Association (FDA) announced at the beginning of this month a new initiative aiming to attract and engage online audiences in the summer line-up of UK cinema releases. FDA has commissioned a series of 15 x 6-minute Movie Preview Shows to appear online each week from now until August.
Each edition will highlight a variety of films playing in UK cinemas and opening soon. The shows will link to a webpage offering cinema ticket booking options and (HERE’S THE REALLY EXCITING BIT!!) movie prizes to win. The week’s first programme was a bank holiday special, covering the range of films on release this weekend and opening next week and is right here:
FDA has commissioned the series from video production company, Upbeat Productions, and the shows will be available to view freely on channels at YouTube, iTunes, BT’s online film portal, YourLocalGuardian.com, and other sites including your very own CutTheCap.com. Every edition will also remain freely available to stream at any time at MoviePreviewNetwork.com, which is nice of them.
On-screen hosts of the shows include broadcasters, Alex Zane and Adam Stevens, while an online competition will be launched by FDA among UK film bloggers to find a brand new presenter to appear during the series. More details to follow once we have them.
The Movie Preview Shows are part of a wider FDA campaign to promote cinemagoing in the UK this summer – during which the FIFA World Cup, Wimbledon and Glasgow Commonwealth Games are live.
Lord (David) Puttnam of Queensgate CBE, FDA President, said: “The unique cinema experience brings out the inner hero in all of us, and the summer’s spectacular line-up is packed with adventure and humour, love and longing, triumph over adversity. Given the blizzard of other entertainment options, I passionately support the aim of these new programmes to connect more people with more films that they might not otherwise have chosen and enjoyed.”
