RYST (Rums You Should Try): El Dorado 25 year old Demerara Rum

EL DOR-RUM CS3

El Dorado 25 year

We’ll admit, its a bit of a given but hey if it wasn’t on the list you’d all question why!

So as many of you know El Dorado is one of our favourite rums – from the 12 year, to former “Best Rum in the World” 15 year, to 21 year, and now all the way through to this wonderful drop, the 25 year.
Demerara Distillers released this new vintage of the rare El Dorado 25 year old in the UK on the 12th of December and we for one are glad they did!

An extremely rare creature the El Dorado 25 Year Old Vintage Reserve is presented in an appropriately distinctive decanter. The rum itself is a 1986 vintage blend of double wooden pot still, wooden column still, and Saville still marques. Each marque was selected after 25 years in wood in 2011 by the late Master Blender, George Robinson (who sadly passed away in October 2011). The blend was then put into marrying barrels where they stayed until bottling this year.

This exquisite vintage rum possesses a silky smoothness which challenges the oldest cognac. After a bit of research we found out that the constant ambient warmth and tropical conditions of Demerara dramatically hasten the maturation process – producing a spirit that is the equivalent of one aged for many more years in a cooler climate.
El Dorado 25 Year Old Demerara Rum is elusive, rich, smooth and mellow with viscous mouth-feel and subtle notes of caramel and heavy fruit cake. The finish develops slowly and leaves opulence to last.

El Dorado 25 year old will be available through Masters of Malt at £290.00 +VAT (43%, 70cl).
