It seems like we have just shaken the Christmas spirit in enough time to start thinking about Burns Night. We may not be Scottish but any excuse to enjoy a fine glass of Whisky and Scottish treats gets our seal of approval.
Thanks to the guys at Balblair they are celebrating Scotland’s national hero this Burns Night by raising a dram of the brand new and long awaited Vintage 2005 from Balblair Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky. With each Balblair Whisky expression released only when at the peak of perfection, making the Vintage 2005 is the dram to celebrate with this Burns Night.
Burns Night offers a perfect occasion to kick back, enjoy some haggis and read the fine workings of Robert Burns savouring a dram of the Balblair unique 2005 Vintage.
If you are unaware of the 2005, this expression displays the classic Balblair house aromas of green apple, ground spices and honey on the nose with hints of sweet toffee and a deliciously spicy long finish on the palate.
Furthermore, its notes of ground spice and oaky vanilla make it the perfect accompaniment to the traditional Burns Night supper of haggis, neeps and tatties. (We are certainly embracing Burns night this year).
We’ll be toasting the evening with a fine glass of Balblair 2005 and because it’s the only whisky to be released exclusively in Vintages, meaning it makes for some pretty special drinking this Burns Night.
Our cigar choice is yet to be decided, but we will be doing some pairing tests which we will report back on soon.
Balblair Vintage 2005 1st Release is matured in American oak ex-bourbon barrels imparting notes of oaky vanilla, leather and oranges with a hint of fragrant cut flowers and smoke. Full bodied with the classic aromas of fresh green apples, ground spices and honey on the nose, Balblair’s signature style of citrus orchards is followed by intense sweetness of toffee and vanilla rounded off by a deliciously spicy, long finish.
Balblair Vintage 2005 1st Release can be purchased for around £41 from fine retailers such as Whisky Exchange
