Swingers: The New Crazy Golf Club on the Block

Swingers new logoFrom pop-up to permanent – the all-new, permanent Swingers Crazy Golf course is now open!

A bit of a history lesson for you to begin with… Did you know in 1916, James Barber, The American owner of a New York steamship line, built an 18-hole Lilliputian golf course at his estate in North Carolina, creating what is believed to be the world’s first ever crazy golf course.

Exactly 100 years later, The Institute of Competitive Socialising is delighted to announce that in celebration of this momentous centenary and – less coincidentally – following the huge success of their Shoreditch pop-up, the new permanent Swingers venue is now open to the public.

The new Swingers site is the product of 18 months of intensive planning and development and the ICS is pretty sure that there is no other venue like it, anywhere in the world. Housed in a 16000 sq ft basement in the shadow of the Gherkin in the heart of the City, Swingers is based on a quintessential English 1920s country golf club and comprises a clubhouse set in lush, rolling grounds. Swingers is geared up for maximum eating, drinking and crazy golfing hedonism! Game. On.
It features the following:

  • Five cocktail drenched bars (in association with Cut The Cap fav World Class Drinks)
  • Three street food vendors: Pizza PilgrimsPatty&Bun and Le Bab plus a coffee counter from Nude Coffee Roasters
  • Two all-new 9-hole crazy golf courses: The Lighthouse and The Windmill
  • A two-storey, free standing clubhouse, complete with a Tanqueray No. TEN gin terrace – why not?
  • A private dining room (The President’s Committee Room) and winner’s podium sponsored by Freixenet
  • The Swingers Leaderboard which is linked to the all-new Swingers scorecard app

Yes yes we know you like the detail so here is it…

THE GOLF

Swingers has two 9-hole crazy golf courses – the Lighthouse Course and the Windmill Course (pictured below). As you’d hope, the Windmill Course features a large moving windmill and the Lighthouse Course has a beautiful illuminated lighthouse.

Windmill

Players will need skill and a bit of luck to take them round the combination of dog legs, jumps, sand traps and loop-the-loops. The courses have the feel of a secret English country garden, filled with trees, ivies, creepers and wild flowers that cover the reclaimed timbers and pergolas that surround the different holes. Swingers have taken everything that visitors loved about the pop-up course and expanded on them for the permanent site, while creating surroundings that are almost like an immersive theatrical set.

Swingers will be launching central London’s first crazy golf tournament in late 2016 so keep your eyes pealed for that!!

THE FOOD

You don’t need to be playing crazy golf to enjoy some of London’s best street food…

Patty&Bun – Using the best of British, hungry putters can expect a menu tailored to the Swingers crowd.  Expect some of the beloved P&B classics, including the infamous Ari Gold. Guests will be introduced to newcomer the ‘Colin Montgomery’. Named in honour of the pro-Scottish golfer, the ‘Colin Montgomery’ is a mouth-watering combination of aged beef patty with Streaky bacon, Montgomery cheddar, P&B’s Special sauce, Lettuce, Ketchup and a Seeded Brioche.

Pizza Pilgrims – Old friends of Swingers, Pizza Pilgrims were resident through the entire pop-up. They’re back, and this time instead of their van, they’ve got a full-on pizza oven, which means that they can offer a menu that, in size, isn’t far off what they offer in their restaurants. Their Swingers menu features a mouth-watering selection of pizzas and calzone and is perfectly rounded off with their decadent Nutella pizza ring.

Le Bab – The ex-Le Gavroche chefs leading London’s ‘Kebab renaissance’ to great acclaim from their much talked about new restaurant in Kingly Court will be offering Swingers guests irresistible gourmet kebabs made with delicious grilled meats. Dishes will include: chicken shish with charred pickled and roasted sprouting broccoli and harissa toum, pork shawarma with charred hispi cabbage and chermoula mayo and their paneer tikka kebab with beetroot puree and crispy shallots. They’re also serving up a sensational dessert – lokma doughnuts with orange blossom chantilly. With delicious food like this, Swingers are very happy to welcome Le Bab to the team.

Swingers will be open from Midday onwards for food (eat-in or takeaway), drinks and crazy golf – in any combination. During the daytime, great coffee is essential and to that end you’ll be pleased to know Swingers is home to Nude @ Swingers, an in-house coffee counter from London coffee maestros Nude Coffee Roasters. They’ll be serving their full range of artisan coffees – to drink in or take away – from midday until 6pm, at which time their excellent espresso will find it’s way into the Swingers signature espresso martinis.

THE DRINKS

The vibrant cocktail menu is sponsored by World Class, which gives Swingers a fantastic portfolio of luxury spirits to work with in their cocktails. Tanqueray No. Ten enjoys special prominence at Swingers on the gin terrace, while Haig Club is featured on the bars of the Clubhouse, and Bulleit Bourbon is the star of the 10th Hole Bar.

Swingers has worked up quite a cocktail menu for putters and after-work drinkers alike. Signature cocktails include:

  • A Swinger Called Colin – a refreshing and fruity Collins featuring Haig Club
Tigerita – a Don Julio based party cocktail, with vanilla spiced agave and cucumber
  • The Royal Blush – Tanqueray No. TEN, hibiscus and grapefruit syrup, fresh lime
  • Double Barrelled Old Fashioned: Bulleit Bourbon Rye, house muscavado syrup and Angostura bitters

Swingers are also working with Meantime, who have installed three 1000 litre brewery-fresh beer tanks at the top of the Lighthouse Course to ensure that customers get only the best tasting beer!
